Man Killed In Officer Involved Shooting

An investigation is underway concerning a deadly officer-involved shooting in central El Paso. Police say an officer pulled over a car in the Kwik Car Wash parking lot at 4020 Dyer Street last night. That's when someone in the vehicle allegedly opened fire, and shots were exchanged between him and the officer. The man who was shot was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Texas is cooking under a brutal heatwave that's placing record demands on the state's power grid. Peak demand topped 68,000 megawatts as temperatures soared to near 100 Wednesday in Houston and other big cities in the Lone Star State. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas expects the heavy demand to continue as people crank up their air conditioners to try to beat the heat. State officials say voluntary conservation measures may kick in as needed to protect the grid.

Republican Presidential contenders are speaking out on immigration issues. In last night's first GOP Presidential debate, Donald Trump defended his assertion that Mexico is sending its bad citizens into the U.S.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio noted that illegal immigrants are coming from many countries, not just Mexico. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said President Obama has "messed up" the federal immigration system. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said U.S. leaders on both sides of the political aisle don't want to tackle immigration in a serious way.
