Man Found Guilty Of Lying To FBI

A man is facing up to five years in prison for lying to the FBI about his son's whereabouts.  Victor Solis was found guilty of making false statements to El Paso FBI agents concerning the whereabouts of his son, who is a former Los Angeles police officer.  Solis' son was wanted in California for murder.  Solis maintained that he did not know where his son was after dropping him off at an El Paso bus station.  Surveillance video shows the two men crossing into Mexico through the Paso Del Norte Bridge.  In addition to the prison time Solis could be fined 250-thousand-dollars.  Sentencing is scheduled for August 20th.

Man Sentenced To 75 Years In Shaking Baby Case

An El Paso man is looking to spend the rest of his life in prison for severely injuring his son by shaking him.  Jose Manuel Brito was found guilty of injuring a child and causing serious bodily injury.  The jury sentenced Brito to 75 years in prison and to pay a 75-hundred-dollar fine.  In 2011 Brito was arrested after his three-month-old son was taken to University Medical Center of El Paso with several head injuries and broken ribs.  The baby did survive.  Brito maintains the baby choked on milk and stopped breathing as he performed CPR.

Money Set Aside For New Trail

The Frontera Land Alliance is receiving more than 58-thousand dollars for a new urban trail in the Resler Canyon Nature Preserve.  The preserve sits in the Coronado neighborhood.  According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the money is part of the more than two-million dollars in federal grants for 17 recreational trail projects across the state of Texas.  The money will be used to construct a new half-mile trail along with signs, benches and a viewing platform.

El Paso Police Investigating Drowning

El Paso police are looking into what led to a landscaper being found in a backyard pool.  The 49-year-old landscaper, who has not been identified, was found motionless in the pool by a co-worker.  The man was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.  Police say the landscaper was wearing a gas-powered leaf blower when he fell into the pool.  His co-worker, who was working in the front yard at the time, found him a short time later.  Police do not believe foul play was involved.

Brush Fire Destroys Mobile Home

A brush fire is to blame for destroying a mobile home.  The fire started in a vacant lot behind the mobile home, but quickly spread to the home.  Fire crews say the home was fully furnished but no one was living in it at the time.  The property owner was cited by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, but deputies did not say the reason for the fine.  Damage is estimated at $10,000.
