Man Arrested After Allegedly Barricading Self Inside Bank

An investigation is ongoing into a 56 year old man who allegedly barricaded himself inside an east El Paso bank.  It happened yesterday evening at a Compass Bank on Montwood and Yarbrough.  Police say the man entered the bank and then became upset and barricaded himself inside.  The FBI cleared evacuated the bank and the surrounding plaza.  Police say the man peacefully surrendered just before 9:00 p.m.  There's no word yet on why the man became agitated inside the bank.

Charter Bus Driver Killed In I-10 Crash

A charter bus driver is dead after losing consciousness and crashing his vehicle on I-10.  Police say 64 year-old Benjamin Galaviz-Gomez was driving eastbound on I-10 yesterday morning when he lost consciousness and crashed into the center median.  The crash forced authorities to close down all eastbound lanes of the I-10 for a few hours.  Police don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.  An autopsy has been scheduled.

Congressional Democrats Visit S. TX Detention Center For Illegal Immigrants

Congressional Democrats aren't happy with the Department of Homeland Security over several South Texas detention centers for illegal immigrants.  Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez says a 4 year old and his mom have been held in the Karnes County Residential Center for almost a year.  He doesn't think they did anything wrong, except ask someone from the U.S. for help.  San Antonio Congressman Joaquin Castro praised members of the religious community for stepping up to provide social services for some of the women and children at the facility.  He says almost everyone there was hopeful they'd be released soon.

Texas Republicans To Return Funds Donated By White Supremacist

Some Texas lawmakers are distancing themselves from a campaign contributor whose influence is tied to suspected South Carolina gunman Dylann Roof.  Governor Greg Abbott says he has donated the $1,000 his campaign received from Earl Holt the Third in 2013 and 2014 to the Salvation Army.  Holt is the founder of the Council of Conservative Citizens in St. Louis.  He has contributed thousands of dollars to some Republicans, including Senator Ted Cruz, who says he will return the money.

Darryl Hamilton Dead From Apparent Murder-Suicide

Former Rangers outfielder Darryl Hamilton is dead following an apparent murder suicide.  The "Houston-Chronicle" reports the 50 year old was shot multiple times, allegedly by the mother of their 14 month old child, before the woman turned the gun on herself.  The child was unharmed.  Hamilton played 13 major league seasons with the Brewers, Rangers, Giants, Rockies and Mets.  He was currently working as a studio analyst for MLB Network.  Hamilton hit .291 during his career.  He played in the 2000 World Series as a member of the Mets.
