Police Investigate Murder-Suicide

Investigators are still trying to unravel the details surrounding an apparent murder-suicide yesterday in El Paso.  Police say 51-year-old Ramon Nevarez shot his teenage daughter early Tuesday morning and then turned the gun on himself.  The father was pronounced dead a short time later,  but 14-year-old Emily Nevarez has died after being rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.  So far, police have not released a motive for the double shooting.

Police are investigating a double-shooting in Las Cruces yesterday.  Details are sketchy, but police spokesman Frank Torres says two unidentified victims with gunshot wounds have been treated at memorial Medical Center.  Torres says police are still trying to find out how the double-shooting happened.  There's no word yet on the condition of either victim.

Pentagon Denies Internet Rumors

Officials at the Pentagon insist upcoming military maneuvers in Texas and six other states are not part of a secret plot to impose martial law.  Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren says, "We are not taking over anything."  Meanwhile, the internet is abuzz with rumors that operation "Jade Helm 15" is a sinister plot preparing U.S. troops to take aggressive action against American citizens.  The two-month-long operation is scheduled to begin in mid-July.

Abortion Bill Passes State Senate

The Republican-controlled state Senate has approved a bill that would prevent Obamacare insurance from covering the costs of most abortions.  The measured was approved yesterday, and is similar to laws that have already been approved in nearly two dozen states.  It's the first abortion-related bill to pass the state Senate in nearly two years.

City Moves To Aid Veterans

The City Council has created a new committee to help veterans in El Paso.  City spokesman Cary Westin says the new committee will look for ways to improve on city services already available to approximately 70-thousand veterans in El Paso.  The committee will be composed of nine members, each appointed for two-year terms.

Clint Black Will Appear At Fort Bliss

Officials at Fort Bliss have announced country music star Clint Black will be appearing in concert next month.  It'll be the first concert of the summer concert series at Fort Bliss this year.  It's open to the public, and it's free.  The concert begins at seven o'clock, June 7th.
