When did the band get together, and how?

Koma originally came together in August of 2010 with Marco, Chris (who have been friends for years) and the original singer (who later left). We added Blue on bass around December of 2010. Rusty joined in July of 2011.
We have all been involved in music for years and played in several notable El Paso bands including 11:11, 26 Red, Crash Kennedy and Dead Silence. Basically, we wanted to do something different, something that didnt sound like everyone else.

How would you describe your music to someone?

Its tough to describe to someone what we sound like. Its like a fusion of metal, melody, punk and doom. It's decieving because it sounds like full on metal, but there's an alternative rock melody/catchiness to it. We are ecclectic and every song may have a different feel to it because we really try to incorporate our influences into what we do.

Who are some of the bands that influence your music?

Some of the bands that influence us are Pissing Razors, Slayer, Metallica, Lamb of God, Bad Religion, Fair to Midland, Korn, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Radiohead, Chevelle, Foo Fighters, Incubus and way too many more to list here.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

We opened a show for Chris Daughtry at Biggs Field. It was fun for a number of reasons. First, it was our first time opening a show for a major act, so there were thousands of people listening to us. Second, we were throwing shirts we made into the crowd. About halfway through our set, the crowd started chanting for us to give them a shirt! Lastly and most importantly, this was a show for the military. It was great to put on a show for those who risk their lives and protect us everyday.

Are you currently signed to any kind of label or management?

No label or management yet, but we hope for it in the future.

What other bands have your members been/are in?

Currently Blue plays bass for Jehobo's Witness, but some of the bands he has played with include 420 Flip, Crash Kennedy, and 11:11. Chris plays guitar for the local Sublime tribute band Garden Grove and used to play bass for Dead Silence. Rusty was in a band called Subject to Change in high school and Marco has played with 26 Red, Synyster, Crash Kennedy and many more.

What other local bands would you recommend people check out?

Some of our favorite local bands are A Beautiful Mourning, Texas Roadkill, Synyster, Emily Davis and the Altarboys, Radio La Chusma, Ribo Flavin, The Vibe, Black Wolf Howl, Worm-Hole, Cowboys from Hell Paso, The Sixth, Barbarian and tons of others. The scene in El Paso has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 3 years and there are so many talented musicians here that its hard to list all of our favorites
