The Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony have tapped Kid Rock, the self-anointed ‘American Badass,’ to perform and open the show at their event on Dec. 2 at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

Kid Rock will perform ‘Born Free,’ the lead single and title track from his latest album of the same name. ‘Born Free’ is Rock’s eighth studio album and was released in 2010.  According to NASCAR.com, he was chosen to perform due to his wide-range appeal and his sense of pride in the country.

Rock joins event host Reba McEntire as the performers for the event.

NASCAR.com reports that Kid Rock is an avid NASCAR fan and attends many races and events; he also calls driver Tony Steward a close friend.

The Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony serves as the celebratory end to Champion’s Week, a week-long post-season NASCAR celebration.
