So what IS Labor Day exactly?

Labor Day, which is celebrated the first Monday of September is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers.

This day was promoted by the CLU (Central Labor Union) and the Knights of Labor. It was established as an official holiday in 1887 and by 1894 30 states officially celebrated the holiday. President Grover Cleveland was the one to sign it into law.

Labor Day is also known as an important sale weekend for retailers. Funny thing that because of the importance of the sale weekend, people who work for the retail industry actually work on Labor Day AND work longer hours.

Also in high society, Labor Day is or was considered the last day of the year to wear white. (That always reminds me of the movie "Serial Mom"). Ja!
