Photos of Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and Poison's Bret Michaels are making waves in North Carolina.

According to Charlotte affiliate WSOCTV.com, a federal investigation is under way after images showing Lee and Michaels firing guns surfaced. The rockers were with local law enforcement officers in Rowan County when the pictures were snapped. Now, Sheriff Kevin Auten says the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is looking into the incident. He adds that the ATF plans to check the backgrounds of all of the men in the photos. North Carolina's Felony Firearms Act prohibits any person who has been convicted of a felony to "purchase, own, possess, or have in his custody, care, or control any firearm."

Lee and Michaels are currently on tour together with their respective bands. Motley Crue, Poison, and The New York Dolls return to the stage Friday night at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio.
