Vince Carter was one of the guys in the late Nineties/early 2000’s who got saddled with the expectation of being the “Air Apparent” or “The Next Jordan”.
Of course, no one ever really became “the next Jordan” (sorry, Kobe) but Vince did go on to have a great NBA career including 8 All Star seasons and he continues to play today with Memphis. 38 is a dinosaur in the NBA, and maybe his truly spectacular dunks are fewer and farther between. But he does hold the distinction of having the Greatest Dunk in the History of Basketball. Who says that? You will, after you watch the video.

That’s from the 2000 Olympics and that tall, nearly translucent fellow being dunked over is Frederic Weis of France. Weis is 7’2” and Vince Carter jumped over his head, dragging his nuts right across his face and then dunking the ball. After researching this, I half expected to find out Weis had suffered years of embarrassed depression before finally committing suicide, most likely by drowning himself in the Seine. I mean, just listen to the French commentators on that video. I don’t know what they’re saying but I know exactly what they are saying! Zut alores!

But no, Frederic Weis is still alive, although he’s retired from basketball. And, he still has nightmares about Vince Carter’s testicles coming right at his face.
