The owners of an ice cream store in Ocala, Florida say they had no idea they were sending an offensive message while trying to market their business. WESH.com is reporting that the Ice Cream Family Corner and Sandwiches restaurant has been promoting their food with an ice cream costume that resembles a Ku Klux Klan outfit. The restaurant debuted just a few months ago, and shortly after opening their doors, an employee found an old ice cream costume in a closet. The owners decided to have an employee throw on the costume and stand on the corner to advertise for the business. Unfortunately, after about two weeks, business began to fall off.

Server Jasmine Gonzalez says they began hearing comments, especially on Facebook, that their ice cream costume looked like a KKK outfit. The owners of the restaurant are from Puerto Rico and say they had never even heard of the KKK until this incident happened. The restaurant has since decided to stop using the costume, and emphasizes that they are in no way promoting anything but ice cream.
