El Paso may be one of the safest cities in the country but, our neighbor to the north is the 2nd most dangerous state in the Union!

A recent list of how dangerous each of the 50 states is was recently released and New Mexico came in second!   The methodology used to rank all the states was done by averaging the total number of murders and crimes as well as each states imprisonment and poverty rates. Here are the NM stats from MSN.com:

Violent crimes per 100,000: 703
> Total 2016 murders: 139 (22nd fewest)
> Imprisonment rate: 440 adults per 100,000 (20th lowest)
> Poverty rate: 19.8% (3rd highest)
> Most dangerous metro area: Farmington

Texas came in at number 17 with these figures:

Violent crimes per 100,000: 434
> Total 2016 murders: 1478 (2nd most)
> Imprisonment rate: 769 adults per 100,000 (7th highest)
> Poverty rate: 15.6% (12th highest)
> Most dangerous metro area: Lubbock
