An accident Tuesday at Holloman Air Force base has claimed the life of one contractor and injured an Air Force service member.

A training accident near Holloman Air Force Base on Tuesday claimed the life of a civilian contractor and has inured an airman. The accident occurred in the White Sands Missile Range complex at the Red Rio range. The live-fire training exercise had a ground control party that the deceased and injured were a part of.

In a statement released by base officials, "the Tuesday night accident involved members of a ground-control party struck as two F-16 jets used unspecified air-to-ground munitions at a range that’s part of the White Sands Missile Range complex near Holloman."

The strike happened around 7:30 p.m. Both the contractor and the service member were taken to the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. The contractor was pronounced dead around 9 p.m., and the injured service member has already been released from the hospital after treatment for unspecified injuries.
