Rosas Cantina has sat at the quiet, almost lonesome, end of Doniphan for decades. Very little has changed over the years but, changes are taking place around it.

TxDOT, in their never ending quest to tear up every part of El Paso possible, want to seize Rosa's back lot for the Border West Expressway. The lot serves as an auxiliary parking lot.

Oscar Lopez, who runs Rosa's Cantina, said they were told in 2014 their property would not be affected by construction. Now, TxDOT says they do want the property which, Lopez says Rosa's needs for customer parking. His wife Patricia told ElPasoInc:

“People park across the street on Doniphan, which is very dangerous. At night, this is not a well-lit area. It poses a danger, and that really is the only option.”

We'll have to wait and see what happens as "eminent domain" has, apparently, been put into play. I think TxDOT should find another solution and leave this historic, locally owned, business alone. You?
