Clients of "Discount Tattoo," a tattoo shop in Calgary are being advised to get tested for viruses after the illegal, residential tattoo shop was shut down.


The Alberta Health Department is advising people who got tattooed at a residential tattoo operation in Calgary, Canada to get tested for Hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV.

The tattoo operation, named "Discount Tattoo," was operated by Ryan Kinsella at his home. According to Judy McDonald, the medical officer of health for the Calgary zone, the equipment and needles used weren't sterilized or sanitary and the area used for tattoo was on a desk filled with papers and cigarettes butts. McDonald elaborated that the house overall was unclean and unsanitary.

Discount Tattoo was shut down on January 28th and is forced to remain closed until they are able to show that operation are compliant with regulations.

Moral of the story?

When you get a tattoo from someplace called "Discount Tattoo," you may be getting what you paid for.
