“I was out of medication. So I had me a drink.”

A Georgia man was arrested after he was found drunk riding a motorized wheelchair in a grocery store parking lot. According to Georgia law, you can be arrested for operating "any moving vehicle" while intoxicated. Sadly, that does include motorized wheelchairs.

Danny Wayne Mitchell of Conyers, Ga., was outside a Kroger's grocery store when police were called to deal with a situation. They were only called after an SUV hit his Rascal scooter. According to the incident report, police officers found Michell "backing into the building and over plants" while he attempted to drive the wheelchair.

Mitchell explained that he had taken the Valium for his anxiety, Trazadone for his depression and "consumed a pint of alcohol." He submitted a breathalyzer and was then taken to the hospital. Police kept his motorized wheelchair until he was released.

Danny Wayne Mitchell was given a ticket for DUI and "public drunk" for the incident. Mitchell told the local news he went to the grocery store to get his prescription filled. Since he was out of the specific medication, he drank to help with his symptoms.
