Former two-time World Heavyweight champion and gold medalist 'Big' George Foreman conducted an intriguing interview with the Iceman on Sportstalk on Wednesday.  Among the numerous topics that Foreman discussed were, the state of boxing today, how the UFC has affected the sport, winning the heavyweight championship for the first time over Joe Frazier in 1973, his famous "Rumble in the Jungle" bout with Muhammad Ali, and his retirement followed by his incredible comeback in the late 80's that ultimately resulted in Foreman becoming the oldest man in boxing history to regain the heavyweight championship.

“Big George,” competed from 1969-1977 and from 1987 to 1997, won his first heavyweight title in 1973 with a second round knockout of Joe Frazier.  Foreman would retire for the first time a few years after a devastating loss to Muhammad Ali in “The Rumble in the Jungle.”

George would then make a tremendous comeback in 1987 where he would win his first 24 bouts before getting a title shot against Evander Holyfield on April 19,1991.  Foreman lost the fight  by a unanimous decision, but in doing so, became the first fighter to go the distance with Holyfield.

Foreman was given one final shot at regaining the heavyweight championship of the world when he fought Michael Moorer on November 5, 1994.  George struggled the majority of the bout as he was being out boxed by the much younger and faster Moorer, and entering the tenth round, was losing on all judges’ scorecards.  George had a tremendous tenth round before knocking out Moorer with a right hand, and at age 45, became the oldest heavyweight champion in boxing history.

Interviewing George Foreman on Sportstalk was without question one of the more memorable moments during my career as a sportscaster, and is something that I will never forget.  The man is a true mensch and gave conducted an interview for the ages.
