We all remember her when she wowed more fans than imaginable with Hannah Montana. Now the 20 year-young Miley Cyrus has been voted #1 for Maxim‘s annual Hot 100 list. (Yes, you read right … #1, numero uno.)

Personally, I think she’s got a cute, sexy look going on. Very erotic and revealing, but still hot.

What about you guys, do you think she deserves the #1 spot on Maxim’s 100 list or do you think someone else deserves the spot??

Comedian Nathan Fielder recently sent a message to his twitter followers saying:

text your parents ‘got 2 grams for $40’ then right after ‘Sorry ignore that txt. Not for you.’”

Everyone was then supposed to send screen captures of the responses.  They were, as expected, pretty funny!! Some parents were cooler than others but the last one, wow.  That parent has a pretty, shall we say, colorful way of communicating with junior!  (Watch the language in that one!)

And the Heat move on to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Game 4 of the Milwaukee Bucks vs. the Miami Heat was intense. Considering the Bucks were fighting for a home win so they can at least get another shot at another game. Unfortunately, Lebron James was on fire and scored a total of 30 points also having 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Ray Allen was right behind him with 16 points and 7 rebounds (his 3rd game with double digits). The Miami Heat won 88-77 moving them one step up to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. (Woo-Hoo!!)

Dwyane Wade sat out due to his bad knee. He did a few practice shots but since the pain was still there, the team said they got this … and they weren’t kidding.

“We’re a good basketball team. That’s nothing that’s a secret. We’re not a one-man show, a two-man, a three-man (show). We’re a basketball team.” ~ Dwyane Wade

The Miami Heat will not play until Saturday at the earliest facing the winner of the Chicago Bulls / Brooklyn Nets series. Lebron stated that they are hoping for their 16 game win streak, but their next goal is game #5.

Well, so far two teams are out: Milwaukee Bucks and L.A. Lakers and two teams have moved up: The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are up 3-0 against the Houston Rockets. The Chicago Bulls are also up 3-1 against the Brooklyn Nets. GSW is up 3-1 as well vs. the Denver Nuggets. Memphis and Clippers are tied 2-2 (I think that’s gonna be a bit of an intense series) and as for the Indiana Pacers they are 2-1 vs. the Atlanta Hawks.

New York Knicks are up 3-1 too against the Boston Celtics. (Did you check out Sunday’s game?) Am not really a Boston Celtics fan, but I kinda want them to win (please don’t make me repeat that). Lucky for them, they were not ready to go home and won the game in OT 97-90. (Also, one awesome thing I saw on Facebook was that Danny Ainge, Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger  of the Celtics organization made a surprise visit to a Boston hospital and met with victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy.)

My boys are killin’ it!!

I know the Playoffs just started but are they getting good or what?! Let’s see where each team is standing as of now.

The New York Knicks are up 2-0 against the Boston Celtics. The Golden State Warriors are tied vs. the Denver Nuggets 1-1. Chicago Bulls are up 2-1 with the Brooklyn Nets. Los Angeles Clippers are up 2-1 against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Indiana Pacers are up 2-0 with the Atlanta Hawks. San Antonio Spurs are up 2-0 vs. the LA Lakers (am feeling bad for the Lakers … poor guys). Oklahoma City Thunder are up 2-0 vs. the Houston Rockets.

As for my boys, the Miami Heat are up 3-0! No other NBA team has overcome a 3-0 to win a best of 7 series. The Heat have a great chance to close things out this Sunday at the Bradley Center. Unfortunately, the Milwaukee Bucks were hoping for some sort of ‘boost’ being back home considering this is the first playoff game at the Bradley Center in 3 years. Ray Allen scored a total of 23 points on yesterday’s game. Five of the 3 pointers gave him the NBA career playoff record with 322. The Heat beating the Bucks once more 104-91.

So tell me, which teams do you predict will pass on to the next battle?!

We had such a blast last night at the concert and all our fans who won were awesome! Thanks to everyone who came out we had such a good time together, I’ve never had so much fun hanging out with listeners! Can’t wait to see you guys again at another concert! They have kept watch over the city for most of our lifetimes, ceremonial sentinels dressed in brick and soot — uniforms of a past era. In their day, they belched tons of vaporized metals and minerals high into the desert air. But not high enough.

Saturday, they will be brought back down to earth. The ASARCO smokestacks that have punctuated the El Paso skyline as an exclamation will become commas in the city’s history books.

Their existence will be ended near enough to Smeltertown Cemetery for them to be considered the last two ASARCO employees interred in this unlikely boneyard; its hard, rocky dirt the color of bleached khaki, bright enough in the sun to make you snow-blind in July.

ASH TO ASHES

Throughout the late 19th and all of the 20th century, the smelter refined copper taken from mines, first in Mexico, then under ASARCO in Arizona and New Mexico.

The smokestacks weren’t constructed until much later, but they weren’t built just because that’s what smelting plants did. Even before the U.S. government did many environmental impact studies, evidence was emerging that this particular heavy industry was doing El Paso more harm than good.

The byproduct of copper smelting is sulfur dioxide — in essence, poison gas. The plant was also refining lead up until the late 1970′s. The side effects of ASARCO’s work became something nobody wanted to touch with a 10-foot pole.

So ASARCO built a 612-foot pole.

That was the first smokestack, built in 1951 to push the smelter’s caustic exhaust further up into the air like some kind of reverse ostrich putting its head in the clouds instead of the ground.

But as more studies were made, the raw data on the harm being done to the area began to pour in like the slag that was being poured out. So, ASARCO built an 838-foot pole — the big stack — in 1966.

It still wasn’t enough.

CLEARING THE AIR

The El Paso City-County Health Department said that in just two years, between 1969 and 1971, ASARCO smelting had pumped 1,012 metric tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.

Around that time, the City of El Paso and the State of Texas filed suit against ASARCO for violating the Texas Clean Air Act. El Paso had the highest concentrations of lead in the state.

Lead was found in the soil in Smeltertown, the company community built mainly by and for ASARCO employees. Children there were showing signs of lead poisoning. ASARCO bought the land and moved the residents.

THAT’S ‘SILVER’ LINING, NOT ‘LEAD’

Eventually, time, lawsuits and a changing business climate caught up with ASARCO. After the bottom fell out of the copper market, the plant was shuttered in 1999. The company was sanctioned and sued into paying millions of dollars to clean up the place.

However, at its peak in the 1990′s, ASARCO employed over 1,000 El Pasoans — good-paying jobs, gone before the new millennium and right after NAFTA had cost the garment industry its place atop El Paso’s economic food chain.

And the stacks have stood over it all. Emptied of their original purpose, El Paso has forgotten about their history and argued about their future. They have become reflectors of whatever light El Pasoans have cast upon them.

Giant stakes pinning this city to a last-century mentality that won’t be missed.

Silent finger gestures directed to those who helped close the doors to good jobs.

Familiar beacons that deserve to be preserved and made into monuments.

THE FINAL ACT

Truthfully, it would be years before the toxicity of the soil and the inside of the smokestacks themselves could allow the site to be used for anything. That’s as sure as the hills of slag that separate the stacks from Smeltertown Cemetery.

Now in their last days, down at the base of each smokestack, earnest workers noisily ready them for one last grand bit of sound before the high spring winds that come screaming off Mt. Cristo Rey will have nothing in their path until they meet the Franklins.

Up in the cemetery, serenity has long replaced industry in the final resting place of so many who toiled at the smelter, even from before ASARCO, which took over just one year into the 20th century.

Doves lay eggs in the scrub brush that grows around crumbling graves. Crosses made of lead pipe and splintered wood will soon be the only markers that anything ever existed in that hard stripe of desert next to the Rio Grande.

The only noise is a sharp breeze moving the spines of yucca plants, howling slightly as it meets the hard, flat resistance of gravestones.

It’s the sound of History, and soon nothing more.

I remember when the show “The Simple Life” came out. Am not gonna lie, I actually liked the show, but only the first two seasons, after that they got pretty dumb (well, more). During the shows running and a bit after its cancellation, you couldn’t pick up a magazine without seeing the names Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie all over it.

Let’s start with Paris Hilton.

Apart from her getting out of car flashing moments, the model Paris Hilton had her bit of a downfall. On September 2006 she was arrested and charged with DUI. In January 2007, she pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge. Her punishment? 36 months probation and fines up to about $1500. That same month she was pulled over for driving with a suspended license. The sentencing and probations continued, along with the blondeness.

On July 2010 she was accused of smoking marijuana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but charges were dismissed. 2 weeks later she was detained and released for possession of canabis. In August 2010, she was arrested in Las Vegas for cocaine possesion with her boyfriend Cy Waits. She stated that the purse where the cocaine was found was not hers because it was a high street brand and was not up to her high fashion standards. (Guess whatever happens in Vegas does not really stay in Vegas.)

Now Nicole Richie.

We’ve all seen her lately, the now married and mother of two Nicole Richie has been following a good path. Considering her arrest on December 2006 after failing a sobriety test. People witnessed the star entering the freeway (State Route 134) on the exit ramp and traveling opposite traffic direction. She did admit to smoking marijuana and narcotic vicodin before.

On July 2007, she was sentenced to 4 days in jail, but only served 82 minutes, due to overcrowding (really?!). She then enrolled in an 18 month anti drinking driver education program and completed her probation on December 29, 2010. She is now married to Good Charlotte member Joel Madden with two lovely kids. (Did I mention that on her wedding day she did not want Paris Hilton there and didn’t invite her? Yup! Guess that wasn’t Hot.)

In recent news we are hearing more and more of Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes. Guess they are our new Paris and Nicole.

Weirdo 2.0 begins with Amanda Bynes.

We remember the sweet little Amanda Bynes on the show All That and then her own series The Amanda Show. Times have changed. (Along with appearances, piercings and hair colors.)

In March of 2012, Bynes was stopped by LA police for talking on the phone while driving. On April, she was arrested and charged with DUI after side-swiping a police car (bad move … literally). She was charged with DUI on June 5 (again) and 3 months later charged with a hit and run on two different occasions.

September was not really her month as she had her license suspended, her BMW impounded and charged with driving with a suspended license. Now she is seen dying her hair different colors and smoking marijuana in the streets of New York.

Ready for our favorite troubled starlet? You guessed it … Lindsay Lohan!

Things have not been going well for Lindsay Lohan (rumor has it that she is about to become the first “honorary” inductee to the Sheen family). Let’s see, she has gone to several rehab facilities (Wonderland Center Rehab Facility, Promises Treatment Center, Cirque Lodge Treatment Center and the Betty Ford Center) and is now due to go back to rehab on May 2nd for 90 days. She’s been arrested for DUI, possession, failed sobriety tests; has lots and lots of community service hours and probations due.

The movie “Liz and Dick” was to change her career to a better, but that movie was horrible (even for me that I like some rejects) I think the best thing she’s done so far was her Playboy photo shoot for the February 2012 issue.

And that’s just for now. She recently dodged another (Yes. Another. This is a new chapter.) court appearance.

So that’s where we’ll end … for now. (I and many others have written a number of blogs / stories / articles about this particular train wreck as it is. I’m pretty sure the biggest wreck is still to come. Stand by for more bloggage.)

National Puppy Day was established back in 2006 by Colleen Paige, an animal behaviorist and author. The purpose of this holiday is not only to celebrate the unconditional love and warmth that these little guys bring to us everyday but also to raise awareness of puppy mills and the horrors of animal abuse.

So to celebrate this wonderful day I would like for you to meet Jalapeño, Jude Wonderland, Opie Mad Hatter (Mini Dubba G, Jr), Sassy and Kix. Our joy when we get home!!

We may have our bad days … but these little guys are always there to make things better!!

The Sun City Yard Sale is going on now at Cohen Stadium in the northeast and anything and everything is up for grabs!  Individuals and businesses are all gathered together in one place for your shopping convenience!

Sure, you can drive around town from yard sale to yard sale, but one trip to Cohen is all you need!  It’s only $3.00 to get in (Two people get in for $5 and .. with a canned food item … you can get in for only $2.00!!) and there are refreshments available!

Beats $10, $20 or more in gas and wasted drive time right??

Heads up to all the metal heads, rockers and sports fans; be sure and visit my boss/partner Kevin!  He’s got lots of collectables you might like!  (He’s up top, by the concession stands!)

All around town the funkier the person looked, the more likely they were in a band, somewhat famous, or just thought they were. Here are the pictures Buzz is going to see of hipsters at their best!

Green Day has only played a few gigs since taking a break from pretty much everything while vocalist Billie Joe adjusted to a “new lifestyle”. His recent visit to rehab caused the band to lay up for a bit while Billie addressed his problems. He’s back in business now and sounding better than ever!  The rest of the band has even abandoned certain aspects of their own behavior in support of Billie Joe.

Now, off they go to conquer, or reconquer, the world!

As they gear up for a new round of press, gigs and touring mayhem; they also have Austins’ legendary SXSW festival to look forward to.

A few, very intimate dates are leading them toward east Texas, El Paso making the list last night.  In celebration of this moment, and their proximity to Mexico I assume, they even added a touch of Marty Robbins to the set while tossing in a smattering of Ozzy, AC/DC, Johnny Cash and Lynrd Skynyrd, to boot!

The full set list lies below but, consider this, any band that can inspire someone to stage dive from 20 feet in the air must rock!  I couldn’t catch the free fall on camera, but this young man did it!  Upon landing he bonded with the band, even got a kiss from Billie Joe, and promptly dove again!

Another cool thing about last night!  At show time, a number of fans still hadn’t been able to enter the building; so Green Day sent their roadies and techs up to entertain those who had made it in!  ”The Roadie” band banged out a few cover tunes to keep those waiting entertained while the others made their way in.  (They were actually pretty good!)

I spoke with their tour manager again this morning and he told me they loved El Paso and last nights show may prove to inspire a few more small venue shows!  Trust me, if you ever get to see a gigantic, stadium filler-style band like Green Day play in an intimate setting like last night, TAKE IT!
