The EP Times reports El Paso City Council voted unanimously to end free parking on Saturdays in the shopping district south of Paisano.

City Council ordered that the money be used for annual debt fees owed by The Plaza Theater. Any remaining money will go toward the Paseo de las Luces which, according to the EP Times, was:

identified as one of the heritage corridors and gateway sites for the Sun City Lights public art installations that will be located throughout the city. The program was approved by the council in May, but the city had yet to identify funding for the projects. The Paseo de las Luces was part of a Downtown revitalization effort in the early 1990s that lined South El Paso Street from the Santa Fe Street bridge to San Jacinto Plaza with turn-of-the-century lampposts and stringed lights.
