Free rides home are usually offered on holidays like New Years Eve.  A new program will provide that service 24 hours a day, every day.

According to the El Paso Times, 200 people a month are arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and, last year, the El Paso County Sheriff's Department picked up an additional 360 people. The problem with drinking and driving is serious in El Paso and it doesn't only happen on holidays

Now, through an agreement between Sun Metro and Sun City Cab company, tipsy drivers can call for a free ride home whenever one is needed.  For now anyway.  Mayor Leeser told The Times that more more funding is needed for next year.

"If we can save one life, then it's worth it," Leeser said, adding that they are seeking partners to continue the program. "We have the funding through Sun Metro this year, and would like to continue it."

With summer coming to the Borderland, there will be more patio parties, weekend BBQs and special events going on leading to more instances of DUIs.  If you or someone you know needs a ride, call (915) 212-7777. Any time.
