Former Soldier Due In Court For Crash Related Deaths

A former Fort Bliss soldier is due in court today for a bond hearing in connection to the deaths of two men. El Paso Police arrested 20-year-old Jan Michael Nieves in May of 2014 after he allegedly crashed through a construction site, striking two workers.  James Green and Jimmy Broadstreet were killed in the crash.  Authorities have charged Nieves with two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the crash.

Socorro ISD Opens New Purple Heart School

Far East El Paso has a brand new elementary school.  The Socorro Independent School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday for the Purple Heart Elementary School.  The Military Order of the Purple Heart honored the school as the first Purple Heart School in the state. The new school also boasts Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
