Former Nirvana Drummer Chad Channing Joining Band in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Charles Peterson, Sub Pop Records

Update: Chad Channing will not be entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the other members of Nirvana. Read about why there was confusion in our latest story on the matter.

While many recognize Nirvana as Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, the band actually had other members along the way, and one of those members will join Nirvana when they’re inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Drummer Chad Channing, who actually manned the kit on Nirvana’s ‘Bleach’ album, will be listed as one of those being inducted into Rock Hall. Channing had also recorded a few tracks for Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ album, before exiting over creative differences and eventually being replaced by Dave Grohl. His drum tracks on ‘Polly’ still remain on the ‘Nevermind’ album.

According to Future Rock Legends, Channing says he intends to be present for the induction ceremony, though he won’t be performing. In fact, at this point, it has not been confirmed that any of the members of Nirvana will be performing. Channing’s inclusion is an interesting one given the situation currently facing one of the other 2014 Rock Hall inductees.

KISS recently stated that they would not perform at the Rock Hall event after they were told that only the original lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss would be inducted. KISS, of course, has had several lineup changes over the years and current guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer have been with the band for well over a decade.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place April 10 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
