A name familiar to many El Pasoans and throughout the Borderland is dead.

John Garmon was hit by a car on the east side Saturday night while crossing Edgemere near Ivanhoe.  He was pronounced dead at Del Sol Medical Center.

Garmon anchored for both KVIA and KTSM as well as calling the Hanks High School football games until about a year ago.

Local news anchor and former Garmon co-worker Felipa Solis said;

El Paso has lost a tremendous journalism icon, he taught a lot of people he inspired a lot of people.”

No charges have been filed against the driver nor have any funeral arrangements been announced.
