The cemetery, which many don't even know exists, is in need of maintenance and repairs.

The village of Dona Ana Veterans Cemetery is located at 135 Cristo Rey. (Off Thorp Road, near Las Cruces) According to KFOX.

The graves there contain the remains of veterans from the Mexican-American War, the Spanish-American War and the Civil War. -- KFOXTV.com

The cemetery is in horrible shape but, volunteers are cleaning it up. They need lots more help though so, if you'd like to volunteer, please call Erma Giron at (575) 635 - 5449 or Mary Jane Garcia at (575) 526 - 5048. Money is also being raised through calendar sales.

You may be asking yourself; "why should I care about cleaning up some old graveyard"?

I have no known family members buried there but, I do have relatives who served buried elsewhere. Most of their graves are too far away for me to visit so, I don't know what shape they're in. I hope people there take the initiative to do something like this, for them.

That's my motivation, how about you?
