Ghostlight Creative is calling all El Paso filmmakers, videographers and anyone with a story to tell to participate in the annual 48-hour Film Slam.
Participants will have 48 hours to write, shoot and edit an eight-minute short film for a chance to win $700, $200, or $100 in prize money. Filmmakers will meet for a production briefing, then turn loose on the streets of El Paso Friday, June 20, 2014. Completed films will be screened at Tricky Falls Sunday, June 29, 2014.
Participants may register at ghostlightevents.com for $50 until June 18, 2014, or in person at the briefing event Friday, June 20, 6:00 pm for $80 at Ghostlight Creative, 300 S. Florence Suite 14. Film Slam organizers will have each team draw to determine the genre for their film, then reveal a line of dialogue and a scene that must be included in the film.
Judges will rate films based on the following three categories: story, directing/acting, and execution.
All completed films will be showcased at a screening party Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Tricky Falls, 209 S. El Paso St.
The Plaza Classic Film Festival will screen select films this August and, and all films will have a permanent home on Ghostlight’s You Tube channel.
“We are looking for anyone with a story to share: those who find adventure in the mundane, and those who believe that–given a good incentive and a deadline–they can create magic!” said Ray Sanchez, Ghostlight’s managing partner.
“We would like to see the world through their eyes, if only for eight minutes.”
Proceeds from the Film Slam will support Tapestries of Life orphanage in Guadalupe, Mexico (across Fabens, Texas), which is currently constructing a new facility that will house 400+ children, many of whom were orphaned during the recent drug war.
