A 70 year old man living in Central El Paso is El Paso's first confirmed West Nile Virus case for 2016.

Mosquitos in our area can carry the west nile virus and another disease called the Zika virus. (Zika 'skeeters are bastards. They're active day and night, both indoors and outdoors.)

According to the EP Times, west nile symptoms are similar to the flu and can include fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis or red eyes. To prevent mosquito bites, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, draining standing water, staying in cool/air conditioned places and making sure windows and doors are screened.

They also recommend Environmental Protection Agency-registered insect repellents that containing either DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus or para-menthane-diol.
