El Pasoan Lyle Byrum won the International Hot Rod Association Southwestern Superchargers Series championship funny car race this weekend in Tucson!  According to the El Paso Times, Byrum ran the quarter mile track in 7.57 seconds, reaching a top speed of 174.89 miles per hour.  Byrum's ride is a V-8, hemi powered, alcohol burning Dodge Daytona.

This isn't his first win.  Byrum, who runs a local air service as well as the El Paso Motorplex, also won the championship in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

He told The Times;

"You can go from zero to 60 in a second in these things and from zero to 165 miles-an-hour in four and a half seconds." "That's quite a launch."  "I guess I'm still an adrenaline junkie."
