Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, March 7 – March 9, 2014. Some events are free, some will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

Live Horse Racing – The live horse racing season continues at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Post time is 12:55 p.m. Free general admission and parking. More Details

Friday at the Fire – Enjoy an evening of live music set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing outdoor fireplace. Tonight, 1st Armored Division Jazz Band 6- 11 p.m. FREE.

First Friday ArtWalk and Ghost Tour – All of the art galleries stay open into the evening for this once a month event in the San Elizario Art District. Live music at the Bandido Cantina, the “Movie on the Wall” at 8:00 p.m. and the San Elizario Ghost Tour at 10:00 p.m.are also part of the festivities. 6 – 9 p.m. in the Art District located off Socorro Rd at Main Street. UTEP’s Get Reel Film Series – Get Reel (previously Cinema Novo) presents independent and educational films as well as blockbuster movies for as little as $1. Tonight’s movie is “Frozen”. 7 p.m., UTEP Union Cinema, 500 W. University. Admission is $1 – $2. More Details

El Paso Rhinos Hockey – El Paso’s Junior League ice hockey team hosts the Dallas Snipers. 7:30 p.m. at the Sierra Providence Events Center, next to the Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano. Ticket prices vary. More Details

El Paso Playhouse Presents ‘Deathtrap’ – El Paso Playhouse presents the presents the Ira Levin comedy-thriller that references itself as a play within a play. 8 p.m. at the El Paso Playhouse, 2501 Montana. Ticket prices vary. 532-1317

SATURDAY:

Winter Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (575) 589-0653, ext. 3

Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Freedom Crossing Family Play Date – The family-themed event begins with a showing of “Kung Fu Panda” at the Grand Theatre at 10 a.m. Tickets for all ages are $3.50 and include a kid’s size popcorn and soda. FREE activities for kids including a make your own stuffed panda craft table, panda face painting, music and dancing, photo booth and more starts at 11 a.m. in the Play Area and runs through 2 p.m. Freedom Crossing, 11611 Haan Road at Ft. El Paso Psychic Fair – Psychics, Readers, readings, and more. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Chase Suite Hotel Conference Center, 7000 Boeing, one block east of Airway. $5; FREE with active duty military I.D. More Details

Ice Skating – Whoosh around on ice skates in the area’s largest public ice skating rink. 12 noon to 3 p.m. in the Sierra Providence Event Center, 4100 E Paisano, behind the El Paso County Coliseum. Cost: $8, $6 Military. Admission includes skate rental. More Details

Concordia Cemetery Ghost Tour – The Paso del Norte Paranormal Society will hold a paranormal investigation of Concordia Cemetery from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission: $10; 13 and older. Proceeds go toward restoration and preservation of the cemetery. More Details
