The sun keeps us, and everything else on Earth, alive. It also occasionally tries to kill us via solar storms. Ever wonder how El Paso would stand up to one?

Otherwise known as coronal mass ejections, these suckers can pack the energy of thousands (maybe even millions) of nuclear bombs.

When that energy makes it to earth, it can jack up the planet's magnetic lines, cause massive geomagnetic storms and affect electrical currents all over the world. Every area of the planet is different geographically though so, some areas will weather these storms better than others. Click here to see where in America these storms will cause the most problems.

As you can see, we look pretty good here in the Borderland. However, if you read the fine print, it says that the gray areas ... that's us ... "show where there is not yet enough data to map a geoelectric hazard." So, basically, they're not sure how we'll do here in El Chuco. Cross your fingers!
