El Paso's hot, dry summers typically lead to fireworks bans. Maybe not this year though!

If the drought index for  El Paso remains below 575, there may not be a fireworks ban. According to the EP Times, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index for El Paso is currently at 491 but, could rise by July 4th.

County Judge Veronica Escobar, who holds the power to ban fireworks, told the El Paso Times that:

“My position has never changed on this issue. I rely primarily on the advice of our first responders, if we meet the minimal threshold, what their advice is to me is the route that I take.

One place you definitely can see some major fireworks will be during the El Paso Downtown Street Festival. There will be a massive fireworks show Friday and Saturday night thanks to TFCU. Along with a car show, tons of vendors and other activities, plenty to eat and drink and live rock on the Budweiser main stage from Seether, Neon Trees, Goo Goo Dolls and Collective Soul.

Tickets available at Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com.
