Our local fire department is gearing up to help out our local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) chapter with their annual Fill The Boot campaign!

The El Paso Fire Department is working with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help efforts to find treatments and cures for this debilitating disease. Muscular Dystrophy is a “group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass.” People who suffer from this have severely limited strength and mobility.

The kick off for the Fill The Boot campaign is happening this Thursday at Fire Station 11, 314 Leon Street in Downtown El Paso. Information will be given out as well as location where you can find firefighters to “Fill The Boot.”

Here's what Shannon Schultz, the MDA Fundraising Coordinator had to say about their partnership with the El Paso Fire Department:

“For more than sixty years, fire fighters have stood on the front lines with MDA in the fight to free individuals — and the families who love them — from the harm of these life-threatening muscle diseases. Each year, El Paso fire fighters dedicate countless hours of their time participating in Fill the Boot drives. We're grateful for their steadfast drive and uncommon caring toward the kids and adults we serve.”

Money that is collected will be used to fund new research into treatments and cures, as well as life-enhancing programs. Money is also used to send local kids to a MDA summer camp at no cost to their families.
