Today the El Paso City Council will consider banning electronic cigarettes, better known as e-cigarettes, to the already existing Smoke Free Ordinance.

Lately, everywhere you turn someone is smoking an e-cigarette. These electronic devices heat up a flavored liquid that usually contains nicotine. The device then produces a vapor that is considered a better alternative to traditional cigarettes.

"Vaping" might be banned in public places like bars, stadiums, restaurants and anywhere else the City currently bans smoking of traditional cigarettes. The other ordinance revisions that will be discussed include smoking of any kind within 20 feet of the entrances of such places, and would extend smoking restrictions.

The City Council meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the 2nd floor conference room at City Hall.
