Starting in January, no more smoking at county facilities. No vapes, snuff or chewing tobacco either!

Effective January 1st, smoking/tobacco use of any type is banned in all county buildings and facilities. According to the El Paso Times:

The policy prohibits the use of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, snuff and pipe tobacco at all buildings, parks and sports arenas owned, leased or controlled by the county such as the El Paso County Courthouse, the El Paso County Sportspark and Ascarate Park.  The policy excludes the Ascarate Golf Course and the El Paso County Coliseum.

Those concerned with the dangers of second-hand smoke are happy but, Commissioner Hagerty voted against the ruling because it doesn't allow for designated smoking areas.

“It's all or nothing." You’re not allowed to smoke.” “What’s going to be next? No red meat at the county? No fried foods at the county?" “I agree we need to have the ability to have clean air, but we also have to respect the fact that it’s legal to smoke and we should have an area to do it.”
