State and local officials are warning drivers to watch out for black ice as the head out to work this morning. The combination of melted snow and low overnight temperatures could create hazardous conditions in some areas, especially where roads have been plowed but not treated with chemicals or salt.

The Texas Department of Transportation says they have had crews working all weekend to clear roadways and are asking drivers to give plows room to work. The best advice for safety this morning is drive slowly, give yourself plenty of time to get safely to your destination and leave plenty of room between yourself and other cars, and steer into a skid if your wheels start to slide.

In New Mexico, Governor Susana Martinez has declared a State of Emergency following a powerful winter storm that continues to bring snow and strong winds to New Mexico. Martinez says all residents must stay off the roads until conditions improve. The National Weather Service says the state's eastern region could get between 6 and 8 more inches.
