Texas Department of Transportation has released an animated video, that shows El Pasoans what to expect at the new "Diverging Diamond Intersection." It really is something you need to watch, if you plan to travel on Loop 375 and Spur 601 in Northeast El Paso.

This intersection is the first of it's kind in Texas, according to TxDOT District Engineer Bob Bielek. Drivers are encouraged to watch the video multiple times or do some of their own research, because it might take some time to get used to the intersection.

"The main difference is instead of crossing opposing traffic and making a hard left turn, you'll make a shallower 90 degree left turn," Bielek said, "You'll end up on the opposite side of the road. You'll think you're in England for 300 feet."

Everyone always jokes about El Pasoans being the worst drivers, but I am hoping for the best. According to Bielek, "studies have shown that accidents decreased by 50 percent in DDIs."

The new intersection is expected to open September 2nd.
