A man suspected of fatally shooting a reporter and cameraman during a live television broadcast on Wednesday morning in Virginia shot himself after being confronted by police on Interstate 66, police said. According to local news outlets, he was in critical condition.

Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and videographer Adam Ward, 27 were fatally shot during a live broadcast on WDBJ-TV. Parker was wrapping up an interview with Vicki Gardner, the executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, about 50 miles southeast of Roanoke, Virginia, when gunshots suddenly exploded. In the very-disturbing video, Parker and her guest can be seen running as the camera shakes and falls to the ground. WDBJ-TV General Manager Jeffrey Marks made the announcement to the viewers that Parker and Ward were killed in the shooting.

Police said the suspected gunman, Vester Flanagan, was a former employee at the station, and was known on-air as Bryce Williams. On a now-suspended Twitter account, Williams posted video he took of the shooting as well several tweets expressing anger about how he was treated while employed by the station:
