Look out Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Courtney Love is on the warpath. According to TMZ, the latest claim out of Love is that the Muppets “raped” the memory of her husband, the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, with the way the plush puppets handled his signature song ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ in the 2011 film. Furthermore, Court claims that the powers-that-be- used the song without her permission.

Ah, not so fast.

While that whole “raping” Cobain with their version of the song is a matter of opinion, which she is entitled to have and is always more than willing to share, the accusation about using the song with getting clearance from her? Not exactly accurate.

TMZ reports that Love, who once had complete and total power to approve or deny the usage of Cobain’s music in film and other licensing endeavors, sold half of her rights to his catalog to a music publishing company. Furthermore, she allegedly gave the company exclusive rights to distribute the Nirvana catalog and they okayed the use of the song, as did Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, Cobain’s surviving Nirvana bandmates. Adding insult to injury for Love is the fact that Grohl appears in the film.
