Courtney Love Facing Eviction From New York Townhouse

It wouldn’t be a normal month in the news if we didn’t hear at least one off-the-wall story about Courtney Love — and just in time for Christmas, she’s given us a doozy, getting evicted from her New York townhouse for outlandish and destructive (read: totally Courtney) behavior.

The New York Post broke the news, reporting that the owner of the building is accusing Love of setting it on fire and also ruining its decor. As if that weren’t enough, Love is reportedly more than $50,000 behind on rent (which actually isn’t as bad as it sounds, given that the place was going for $27,000 a month).

“It was decorated by the previous owner, interior designer Steven Gambrel. One of the requirements of the lease is that nothing should be done to the interiors,” said property owner Donna Lyon, going on to allege that “Courtney has wallpapered and painted a large portion of the property without my consent.”

According to Lyon, she only learned about Courtney’s interior design work after she decided to divest herself of the property. “I learned about this when I wanted to sell the house and had photographs taken,” she explained to the Post. “They sent me the brochure and I said, ‘This can’t be my property.’ I came to New York to see it and I was horrified by what she had done. The walls that had been hand-painted and glazed were ruined, covered in damask wallpaper and ice-blue paint.”

Lyon — who claims that the damage to the building could end up costing as much as $100,000 to repair — says Love also started a fire in the house when a candle was left too close to a curtain in the master bedroom. “I got a call from her accountant, who said, ‘Miss Love is fine,’ which I was glad to hear, but I thought, ‘What about the house?’” she quipped.

Love, naturally, could not be reached for comment, but the court date scheduled for Dec. 21 will likely generate all sorts of colorful commentary.
