Police Investigating "Suspicious Death"

Police are looking into the death of a woman near Airway Boulevard and Gateway West.  Police say the woman was taken to University Medical Hospital last night after a possible sexual assault.  The 38 year old later died from unknown injuries.  Police are questioning one person but say he's not a suspect in the incident.  An autopsy will be done to determine exactly how the woman died.

Governor Abbott Pushing For General Electric Move

Governor Greg Abbott is trying to persuade Connecticut-based General Electric to come to Texas should they decide to move.  Governor Abbott wrote to General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt yesterday, using the state's recently passed tax relief package as a reason to move to Texas.  General Electric recently sparked interest from states across the country after Connecticut approved $700 million in new taxes on businesses.

State agencies will now be required to use the employment verification program called E-Verify.  Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill yesterday, saying it "adds appropriate checks on the hiring of individuals not lawfully present in this nation by state agencies."  The bill also requires someone within the agency is enforcing the new law, something that wasn't included in former Governor Rick Perry's executive order issued last December.

Coronado High School Wins National Competition

An El Paso high school is taking home bragging rights after winning a national trivia contest in Chicago.  "The El Paso Times" says Coronado High School won the Questions Unlimited competition earlier this week, getting a trophy and three-thousand-dollars for prizes.  The group of students had to answer questions in subjects such as math, science, history and art.  Coronado beat two other schools in the finals.

Juarez Wants To Make Break Burrito Record

Juarez is looking to break records at the upcoming food expo.  "The El Paso Times" says the city wants to break the world record for biggest burrito ever made.  City officials are hoping it will surpass the previous record set in La Paz, Baja California, where the burrito made weighed 12,000 785 pounds and stretched about a mile-and-a-half long.  "The El Paso Times" says Juarez will also look to make the biggest margarita ever made in Mexico.
