Disgruntled City Council Members Want Manager's Pay Raise Rescinded

The city council plans to discuss the city manager's pay raise tomorrow, despite many who think that Tommy Gonzalez is underpaid. Council member Claudia Ordaz revived the issue for tomorrow's council meeting. Gonzalez would get a $61,000 pay raise next month, making his annual salary $300,000. Despite the 6-to-2 vote to approve the raise, there are still some members of the council who think Gonzalez shouldn't get a pay bump when city employees have not gotten a raise in two years.

Mechanical Issues Forces United Air Flight To Land In El Paso

Passengers on a United Airlines flight from Houston will be flying out of El Paso this morning after making an unscheduled stop. The flight from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to San Francisco was forced to make an emergency landing Sunday for what United officials called an "oil quantity" issue. The plane landed safely just before 7 p.m., and passengers were kept in El Paso for the night while the plane was being checked.

Rio Grande To Remain Flowing Through September

Officials in El Paso will keep water flowing through the Rio Grande through September. Water officials in El Paso County will ask the federal government to shut off the flow of water from Caballo Reservoir on Sept. 28, ensuring water flow through at least the end of that month. Water authorities in Mexico will end their irrigation season on Sept. 20. The Rio Grande riverbed is likely to remain dry until next spring unless there is a storm system strong enough to cause a brief revival.

Sheriff's Office Searches For Missing Sex Offender

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man convicted of a sexual crime involving a minor who has failed to give proper notice of his change of address. The sheriff's office is seeking information about Raul Montes, who could not be found when officers went to visit his listed address. Montes is required to notify the sheriff's office when he moves. Montes was convicted in 2009 of indecency involving a four-year-old girl. Anyone who knows his location is asked to contact the sheriff's office.
