Chevelle, Middle Class Rut + Janus Bring the Rock to New York City

In support of their latest album ‘Hats Off to the Bull,’ hard rockers Chevelle tore up the stage in front of die-hard fans at New York City’s Irving Plaza on Wednesday night (Feb. 29).

The trio started the set with ‘Antisaint’ off of their 2007 disc ‘Vena Sera’ and continued to play a great collection of songs spreading across all of their albums. At points, there was almost no need for frontman Pete Loeffler to sing, as the crowd did all of the work when it came to their radio hits tunes like ‘Closure,’ ‘Send the Pain Below’ and ‘The Red.’

Fans also rocked out to the band’s new tracks such as the latest album’s title track ‘Hats Off to the Bull,’ ‘Same Old Trip’ and ‘Envy.’ Chevelle ended the night with ‘Face to the Floor,’ which recently topped the active rock chart for 13 weeks. Loeffler’s vocals were impeccable and Chevelle’s chemistry and stage presence were undeniable.

The duo Middle Class Rut served as direct support and these two guys had the energy of a full on five piece band. The band features guitarist/vocalist Zack Lopes and drummer/vocalist Sean Stockham. Both members performed with vigor and gained some major new east coast fans, Lopes won the crowd over with his layered vocals which can go from whiny to raspy but still keeps a certain edginess while Stockham mesmerized fans with his vigorous drumming and melodic vocals.

Janus opened up the show with a solid set, as the Chicago based band is on tour in support of their upcoming full length album ‘Nox Aeris’ which is due out March 27. Frontman David Scotney had great crowd interaction as he jumped offstage and sang face to face with many fans. They performed tracks such as their latest single ‘Stains,’ as well as ‘Eyesore’ and ‘Numb’ just to name a few.
