If you're used to using the Cassidy Gate to enter Fort Bliss, you may need a new route after today.

Cassidy Gate now only allows access to soldiers, their families, retirees and people holding Department Of Defense ID cards.  Those who use a regular drivers license will no longer be allowed through.

Fort Bliss released the following statement:

"These measures maintain the commanding general's number one priority of ensuring the safety and security of Fort Bliss and its employees, residents and visitors while simultaneously providing the greater El Paso community the opportunity to enjoy and use our great amenities," according to a media release issued by Fort Bliss.

Civilians without a Department Of Defense ID can still use the following gates:

  • Chafee
  • Buffalo Soldier
  • Biggs Army Airfield
  • Old Ironsides
  • William Beaumont Army Medical Center gates on Fred Wilson and Alabama

An article in the El Paso Times says that the Constitution, Jeb Stuart, Pershing and Ross Elementary School pedestrian gates will all be closed through January 4th.
