So I'm going to break this down into two bullet pointed sections. The top section will be spoiler free, and the bottom will be spoiler filled, which will have enough warnings for you to avoid it, if you don't want spoilers.

Spoiler Free Review

  • I liked Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne.
  • As much as I did like Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, I wasn't a fan of Alfred and the relationship with Alfred. I love Jeremy Irons, but wasn't a fan of this portrayal of Alfred. It felt more like they were the same age and buddy/buddy,
  • Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was pretty bad. It felt like he was trying to play Heath Ledger's Joker, but as Lex Luthor.
  • This movie could have been half as long. I wouldn't say it's slow, but looking back at the progression of the movie, there are a lot of scenes that could have been left out.
  • On that note, I'm willing to bet the original cut of this movie was probably 30-45 minutes longer. And when they were cutting out scenes to get it down to the current 2 hour 33 minute run time, they cut out scenes that were intended to set up later scenes. The middle of the movie seemed to be filled with confusing moments that were out of place.
  • All in all, the end fight scene of the movie might be worth going to see it for DC fans. If you aren't a DC fan, you aren't really missing much. You can tell they are really trying to get the Justice League off the ground the way the Avengers has taken off. The only difference is you can tell they are forcing it. Marvel did it right. Solid solo movies leading to the Avengers.

  • First and foremost, they showed way too much of this movie in the trailers. All the good parts. The scene that got the most applause in the theater was when Wonder Woman stepped in to stop Doomsday from blasting Batman, which was already in the trailer.
  • The fact that we basically knew it was Doomsday they fight at the end of the movie, means any half-assed comic fan can have an idea of how it's going to end. Superman "dies".
  • They briefly show Cyborg, Aquaman, and the Flash when Batman has cracked the code in Lex's computer and opens a folder with all kinds of footage on them. But it's just enough to show what they can do or how they were created. It shows Cyborg being created. The Flash using his super speed to stop a robbery. And Aquaman swimming. Yup, swimming.
  • If you're a Batman fan, there is one thing that will bother you. Batman has a no kill policy. Not in this movie though. He kills a lot of people.
  • They also make it a point that where a major fight is happening, there aren't innocent people there. It's either they end up on an uninhabited island, or it just so happens the fight is at night, and the buildings don't have people in them. And the movie makes sure it points this out.
  • And I'm not sure how I feel about the moment Batman realizes Superman isn't a bad guy. It all boils down to the name "Martha". Seriously, the name of both of their mom's becomes the bonding moment, and suddenly they're ready to start the Justice League.
