Twenty-three year old BBC reporter Mohammed Patel has a degenerative eye condition and is legally blind. Okay, so get that man a guide dog. Well, it's not that easy, because Patel has a phobia of dogs. So, instead of getting a dog, Patel is getting a seeing eye horse. Well, mini horse

The horses name is Digby, and he stand just over two feet tall. Digby can also do anything a seeing eye dog does... almost. Digby is still in training, which is being done in the United States, so it might be a couple of years before Patel gets to take custody of the miniature horse, but they did meet for the first time this past Monday.

There are currently 10 mini horses in the United States being trained to help with the blind. They are designed for people like Patel who have a fear of dogs, or people with severe allergies. One big advantage of a horse over a dog is they live longer, with an average age of 50.
