Johnnie Walker
You don't hear him that much on the air...well, except for a million commercials and stuff, but mostly he hides behind the scenes, trying to make things work. He occasionally succeeds.
By now, you've surely seen that inspirational, moving video of the women describing themselves for the Dove beauty ad. It's a great advertising idea to help women feel better about themselves, and to attach their name to it.
But what if it was flipped around to men? How would guys describe themselves?
Hey, these are the videos I'm watching right now from Bush...some new live performances from Houston. We made the announcement of Bush coming to headline the 2013 edition of the El Paso Downtown Streetfest recently, and I know a lot of people are looking forward to this show! I am, it's going to be a great weekend.
Let's get pumped for the Streetfest with these new live Bush songs...enjoy!
We know that David Draiman has been busy since Disturbed's hiatus began, forming Device, singing on the new Megadeth, and producing the new Trivium CD. We also know that John Moyer joined Adrenaline Mob.
But what have Dan Donegan and Mike Wengren been up to?
There are a couple of funny guys in England, actually there are a lot of funny guys there, but these guys do videos for a music store called Anderton's. One of the guys is Lee Anderton, and the other is a great guitar player and singer named Rob Chapman, who is in the band Dorje and owns Chapman Guitars (with Lee). They do a lot of really cool product demos of the gear they get in, so you can get the scoop on the gear before you buy it.
So many people are waiting with baited breath for the new Star Wars movie to come out. Whether to flame it mercilessly, or embrace it as the saviour of the series, and the redemption of the Jar Jar Binks hell we've been living in. Well, just to whet your appetite, there's a behind the scenes video out from the screenwriter for Episode VII! You get an unprecedented inside look into the beginnings on the new movie!
A lot of manufacturers talk about "hand-built" guitars, and for some of them, they mean it. Others use machines to do most of the shaping, and then finish by hand. There's nothing wrong with that, as the computers can make your guitar exactly the same way every single time, and it saves a lot of time.
But this guy, Ben Crowe, the owner and until very recently, only employee of Crimson Guitars, actually does everything by hand.
This is an exciting time for Sabbath fans, with the first song from the new album "13" coming out last Thursday...all NINE minutes of it...and the new album not too far away. We also have a good clip from yesterday's show in Auckland of another song from the new album, called "End of the Beginning". It sounds oddly familiar, doesn't it? Still cool, though, and Tony can still play his ass off!
For those of you who love Resident Evil, that guy (Shinji Mikami) is working on another scary-as-hell video game, called The Evil Within. It's not due out until next year, but Bethesda (who gave us the amazing Elder Scrolls games and Fallout series) is releasing this monster, so it should be really awesome! Get some creeps, and check out the trailer!
Mike Portnoy has been a busy guy since he left Dream Theater a few years ago. He's recorded and released albums with Neal Morse, Flying Colors, Adrenaline Mob; he's done tours for all of these bands, as well as touring with Billy Sheehan, Derek Sherinian and Tony MacAlpine; put out DVDs with them; and worked with John Sykes on an album that may never even get finished.
A month or so ago, I saw an event pop up on my Facebook feed for the show with Jeff Loomis and Soilwork in El Paso. They had Bonded by Blood on the bill as well, so with that lineup, I was instantly ready to go. Unfortunately, I work Thursday nights, so I was sad.
Then one day (Wednesday night), Glenn asked if I could cover his show so he could take care of some personal business, and I jumped on it! I could go!
Some small problems...
Check out some great videos with Stone Sour behind the scenes and back stage on their current tour with In This Moment. They meet fans, do soundcheck, buy coffee and talk about the road and the studio. And get a load of Josh Rand's kick-ass Flotsam and Jetsam T-shirt!
Do you guys fall into little mini-obssessions like I do? I find myself getting addicted to a certain restaurant or kind of food, and I eat it as often as possible until I'm burned out on it. I was on a chicken sandwich kick for a long time, then it was tacos, then burgers, then Chinese, salad, then...well, you get the idea.
