Marilyn Manson is set to drop ‘Born Villain’ on Tuesday (May 1) and as is usually the case with the Antichrist Superstar, he is doing things his way. After parting ways with Interscope, he is free to do what he wants, when he wants and how he wants. That includes working with Johnny Depp, picking up the guitar and loading his tour set list with a healthy mix of new and classic songs, with an emphasis on one particular album from his past.
Smashing Pumpkins will issue ‘Oceania,’ their seventh studio album, on June 19. It exists as part of the band’s ambitious, 44-song ‘Teargarden by Kaleidyscope’ project, which is released in song-by-song format and has been since 2009. Yet ‘Oceania’ still stands apart as a separate piece.
The Offspring have debuted the title track / first single from their upcoming ninth album ‘Days Go By’ and it’s what you’d expect from these perennial Warped Tour rockers. Potent melodies, singalong choruses, big power chords, frontman Dexter Holland’s signature nasally vocals and a summer-appropriate energy.
Hot on the heels of the just announced Trespass America tour, Five Finger Death Punch have unleashed their new single, ‘Coming Down.’ It’s a moody mid-tempo number with plenty of moshability, but there’s also some provocative lyrics situated among the battering ram riffery and singer Ivan Moody’s vitriolic bark. The best of both worlds, if you will.
Ex-Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler is done talking about Axl Rose aka ‘the redhead,’ saying the singer’s letter to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame exposed the singer’s “true colors.” Even though Adler spoke at length about Axl and the current incarnation to Loudwire, after all the drama, mudslinging and the ensuing media firestorm, he has given his final interview where Rose’s name will be mentioned.
Mastodon and Feist covered one another’s songs for Record Store Day (April 21) in one of the most anticipated releases of said event. Don’t stress or fret if you didn’t get a chance to nab the 7″ single yet. You can still listen to and enjoy the music online, since it is available in streaming form.
The loss of vocalist Ronnie James Dio to stomach cancer in 2010 still stings the hearts of metal fans, including that of the mighty Metallica. The band plans to be involved in the upcoming Dio ribute album, which will also feature Anthrax, Rob Halford and more. It turns out that Metallica even contacted Dio’s widow directly in order to get the ball rolling on their participation.
Buckcherry have shared a minute-long audio clip of the song ‘Wherever I Go.’ The tune has prime placement on ‘Avengers Assemble,’ the soundtrack to ‘Marvel’s The Avengers,’ which is easily one of the most hyped and talked about action films of the summer.
Scott Ian has opened his vaults and the Anthrax archive. The guitarist is auctioning off a multitude of items from over 30 years of his headbanging history. Everything from those famous yellow shorts imprinted with the “Not” saying all over them to a beat up pair of Adidas high tops (size 8, Patrick Ewing style) to vintage passes and tour itineraries are going on the block. If you are a diehard ‘Thrax worshipper or tried and true metal fan, there are plenty of items worth owning here. Some of the offerings are priceless.
System of a Down and Deftones are teasing what looks to be a Monday (April 23) announcement of a joint North American tour. Hot on the heels of the news that they both will be playing Heavy MTL and Heavy T.O. festivals up in Canada this summer, it looks like more dates together are in the works, as the bands used their social media and online properties to drop obvious hints.
Chevelle get their butts kicked by an unseen force throwing fisticuffs in the band’s new video for ‘Hats Off to the Bull.’ It’s easily one of the most brutal and cool clips we’ve witnessed in quite some time. Somehow, the violence is much more intense when you can’t see the perpetrator.
