Many area veterans are fighting a silent battle against Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There are many treatments, medications and support groups available but, finding the right balance of those things is difficult. One thing that is known though is that pets DO help.

This weekend, New York Times best-selling author selling author Capt. Luis Carlos Montalván will be in El Paso to speak about his 17-year military career, his many tours abroad and how his dog, a golden retriever named Tuesday, helped him overcome PTSD.

Friday, from 4-7, Montalván will sign his books at the Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Fountains at Farah. Saturday, he and Tuesday will be at the El Paso Marriott for the Golden Retriever Rescue of El Paso benefit. Montalván will speak and Tuesday has been known to give "paw" - tographs. Tickets for the benefit are available at holdmyticket.com.
