El Paso Fugitive Arrested In New Mexico

An El Paso fugitive is behind bars after being arrested in New Mexico.  Police in Dona Ana County arrested 36 year old Christopher Lee Millender Wednesday in the 1600 block of South Main Street.  El Paso police were seeking Millender on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Apartment Fire Leaves Four Families Homeless

Four families are displaced following a fire at an East El Paso apartment complex.  Officials say the fire broke out early yesterday morning in a vacant unit at the La Estancia apartments in the 7900 block of Viscount.  Investigators say the blaze was caused by electrical issues.  No injuries were reported, but damage is estimated at $50,000.

House Passes Bill To Penalize Sanctuary Cities

A bill penalizing sanctuary cities is headed to the Senate after clearing the House.  The Republican measure aims to restrict federal funds to cities that establish sanctuary policies for illegal immigrants. Sanctuary policies make it harder for federal authorities to deport illegal immigrants. The issue has become heated since a young woman was recently shot and killed in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant who had been deported several times before.
