Borderland Veterans are getting a little extra help this week!

According to the El Paso Times, several organizations will be in El Chuco this week to help El Paso area veterans get the help and services they need.

The American Legion will be set up at American Legion Post 58, 4724 Vulcan. (751-0850)  American Legion personnel will be there as well as other representatives from the VA, the American Red Cross and other agencies.  Hours are

  • Noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday
  • 8am to 8pm Wednesday
  • 8am to 6pm Thursday
  • 8am to noon Friday.

They have also established the "VA ACCESS HOTLINE" to help vets schedule appointments for medical care.  That line can be reached Monday - Friday from 8am 'til 4pm at (915) 564-6143.

According to Verna Jones, director of Veterans Affairs:

The idea is to bring the "VA to veterans" and get vets the help they need to get an appointment, file a claim or resolve other issues."

If you are, or if you know, a vet who is having trouble getting the attention they need, please visit with these folks.  They can help and their presence here will ultimately help make things better for all vets.

Our veterans were there for America, it's about time we got serious about being there for them.
