A town in Alabama is considering banning what they deem as "disrespectful" clothing.

The city council of Dadeville, Ala., is proposing a ban on clothing that they believe is "disrespectful." The band first only involved men's saggy pants. The idea was first proposed by city council member Frank Goodman in the Aug. 25 council meeting. Goodman explained the reason behind the proposed ordinance saying that it is about respect:

“Who is going to respect you if you don’t respect yourself. The reason I brought this up is I think people deserve respect when they are in public. I think slacking is disrespectful. I think it gives our younger generation the wrong impression of what is cool.”

Councilman Goodman also explained why he had such a problem with the younger generation's sagging pants:

“We have people walking down the street with their hand in front of them holding up their pants. Then they have the nerve to walk into a place of business and ask for a job. If you come to my house you are going to pull them up before you get on my property, much less in my door. I prayed about this. I know that God would not go around with pants down.”

The other city council members not only agreed with Goodman's ordinance, they added more clothing items to the ban. So, now not only are men being told what they can't wear, so are the women. City council member Stephanie Kelley explained why they decided to add short shorts and miniskirts to the ban,

“My concern is it should be for everybody. I think for the girls, with these shorts up so high looking like under garments and dresses so short, I don’t want us to be showing favoritism.”

The town attorney is hoping that the new ordinance will be ready by the next town meeting. You can read more at Alex City Outlook.
