Analysis

  • The bye week is right in the middle of the season, which is good. I've never been a big fan of having a bye week too early or too late in the season.
  • For the most part, they alternate between home and away games nicely.
  • They have back to back road games against a couple bird teams, the Eagles in week 10 (their first meeting of the season) and the Falcons in week 11.
  • That does allow them to have 3 straight home games towards the end of the season though, which is real nice, hosting the Redskins, on Thanksgiving Day, Saints and Eagles from weeks 12 through 14.
  • The Boys do wrap up the season in East Rutherford against the Giants which can be tough if there is anything on the line in that final week of the season. Make no mistake, the Giants should be better than last year. Ben McAdoo had a whole lot to do with how bad that team was last year.
  • I'm interested to see what the game in week 6 is like. The Cowboys play in Jacksonville against a team that made the AFC Title Game last year. But the Jaguars are known for not selling a whole lot of tickets.
  • Overall, this is a rough schedule for the Cowboys.
    • First, you have to play the defending champions twice.
    • The other two teams in the division always play inside the division tough.
    • 7 of the 10 games against non-NFC East teams are against teams that had winning records last year.
    • And the 3 teams that had losing records they'll be playing could easily be a lot better.
      • Tampa Bay just needs Jameis Winston to stop "eating Ws" and they could be a good team.
      • The Colts tanked last year without Andrew Luck.
      • The Texans have a great team if they're healthy. But then again, two of their top players are coming off significant injuries. (EG - JJ Watt and Deshaun Watson)
